No surprises, no pressure. Here’s exactly what your first visit at Northwest Family Dental looks like, start to finish.
Before you arrive
- Fill out our new-patient forms online — saves 10–15 minutes at check-in.
- Verify your insurance — we’ll confirm your benefits before the visit so cost estimates are accurate.
- Bring a list of medications — including supplements and over-the-counter drugs.
- Eat light beforehand — not required, but most patients prefer a small meal a couple of hours before rather than right before.
The visit, step by step
1. Welcome & check-in (10 minutes)
You’ll meet our front-desk team, finish any remaining paperwork, and we’ll show you to one of our treatment rooms.
2. Digital x-rays (10 minutes)
Modern digital sensors capture detailed images of your teeth and surrounding bone with up to 90% less radiation than older film systems. We use these to spot problems below the surface that a visual exam can’t catch.
3. Hygiene cleaning (30–40 minutes)
Our hygienist removes plaque and tartar buildup, polishes your teeth, and walks you through your home-care routine. If we find evidence of gum disease, we’ll discuss options before doing anything beyond a regular cleaning.
4. Comprehensive exam (15–20 minutes)
Your dentist reviews the x-rays, examines every tooth and your gums, screens for oral cancer, and checks your bite alignment. We’ll point out anything that needs attention — and anything that doesn’t.
5. Treatment plan & estimate (10 minutes)
If treatment is recommended, we lay out the options at different price points and timelines. You’ll get a written estimate with insurance benefits applied (or our self-pay specials if uninsured) before you commit to anything.
How long will I be there?
Plan for 60–90 minutes for an adult first visit, 30–45 minutes for a child. We don’t double-book chairs — when you’re with your dentist, you have their full attention.
