When is an extraction the right call?
We always try to save a natural tooth first — with a filling, root canal, or crown. Extraction becomes the recommended path when:

- Advanced gum disease has loosened the tooth beyond saving
- Wisdom teeth are impacted, crowding, or repeatedly getting infected
- A badly crowded mouth needs room before orthodontic treatment
Simple vs. surgical extractions — and what each costs
Not all extractions are alike, and the difference matters for both comfort and cost. At Northwest Family Dental our extraction pricing is straightforward:
- Simple extraction — $199. The tooth is fully visible above the gumline and is gently loosened and removed under local anesthetic. Most simple extractions take only minutes.
- Surgical extraction — $249. Needed when a tooth is broken at the gumline or hasn’t fully erupted. A small opening in the gum lets us remove the tooth, sometimes in sections.
- Wisdom teeth — $299 per tooth. Wisdom teeth are commonly surgical because of their position at the back of the jaw.
Those are real prices, not starting points with surprises attached. We verify insurance before treatment and offer financing for larger treatment plans.
Nervous? Sedation makes a real difference
Dental anxiety is the number one reason patients wait until a tooth becomes an emergency. We offer two comfortable options: nitrous oxide (laughing gas, $199), which relaxes you during the visit and wears off within minutes so you can drive yourself home, and oral sedation ($299), a prescribed medication taken before your appointment for deeper relaxation. Many patients tell us the sedation visit they postponed for months was over before they knew it.
What recovery actually looks like
First 24 hours: Bite gently on gauze to form a clot, rest, and use a cold compress for swelling. Stick to soft, cool foods — think yogurt, smoothies (no straws!), and mashed potatoes.
Days 2–3: Mild soreness is normal and usually well controlled with over-the-counter pain relief. Begin gentle warm salt-water rinses after meals.
Days 4–7: Most patients are back to normal eating. Avoid smoking and straws for the full week — suction can dislodge the clot and cause a painful dry socket.

Don’t leave the gap: your replacement options
Once healing is complete, replacing the tooth protects your bite and keeps neighboring teeth from drifting. Depending on the situation, we may recommend a dental implant (complete package $2,498), a bridge, or a partial denture ($899).
